STEPS IN RESTORATION:

- Initial Inspection.
- Stripping of Hardware and Finish.
- Straighten and Repair.
- Metal Work.
- Recork, Rewrap Silks and Final Fit.
- Apply New Finish.

EXPERIENCE AND MATERIALS:

I have repaired and restored numerous rods over the years, from simple guide wraps to detailed restoration of many famous maker fly rods. In 1991 I restored the Granger fly rods used in the production and filming of the movie, "A River Runs Through It".

A modern built Kane Klassic fly rod with an 1890's style cane handle.

I have a complete supply of "era" silks of all the maker's rods. If ferrules or reel seat replacement is needed, I have the metal in bar stock and a jewelers lathe to reconstruct any part of the fly rod in repair. My modern polymer coating finishes the rod giving it all the original beauty of the old spar varnish, but generations worth of protection.

FLY RODS OF VALUE:

The fly rods listed below are examples of rods of considerable value. Note - your father's or grandad's rod, not of a maker below, is in my opinion just as or more valuable and will receive equal attention in restoration !

SIZING THE FLY LINE TO YOUR ROD:

The most asked question on fly rods of the past is, "What modern fly line size does it use?" Pages could be written on this mystery! My advice is leave it to your own liking!! Simply use fly lines of different weights until you like the way it performs. Any local fly shop will be happy to let you use their demo lines until, "with some grass casting", you discover the feel of line size that appeals to you. All rods restored are matched to the correct line size here in the shop prior to delivery back to you. You are welcome to send your rod for my evaluation on line size as well.
